Coverage Corner: Lesser Known Exclusions to Most Home Policies

Insurance policies are designed to offer coverage for most of the situations that might cause loss for the average Insured property owner. However they do not cover “everything.” There are exclusions.

In most Home Policies, the two most common exclusions are for floods and earthquakes.

Two less known exclusions are:

  • For any damage caused to any outbuildings if that building is used for any business purposes
  • For lawsuits that result from the operation of any business at your home.

The good news is that most of the perils and situations that are excluded can be covered by adding specific endorsement’s to your policy or by buying a separate policy.
